Event 5 in the Bike Tyrestore Track Action programme, this time with Michelin!
The date: Wednesday 13th August
The place: Oulton Park
The name: “Get On Track with Michelin Two Compound Technology”
27 days to go, and invitations have been posted to the customer riders on our guest list. If we have phoned to offer you a place at Oulton Park, we do need you to return the reply form urgently, so that the free Two Compound Technology tyres Michelin are providing are sent to you in time to allow for thorough "scrubbing in" before the event. We don't want anyone attacking Oulton on virgin rubber! Please follow the instructions on the form, returning it to our fax number 0121 350 5792 by next Wednesday, 23rd July.
This will be a fantastic day out, including not only plenty of time on track, but also Michelin hospitality and Formula 1 entertainment, an Aprilia Road Show and a chance to meet and greet with Bibendum himself!
All that, and a pair of Pilot Road 2CT, Power Race or Pilot Road 2 with the compliments of Michelin and brought to you by Bike Tyrestore in the best spirit of our World Of Bike Tyres customer support initiative.
We think that's pretty fine!
Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland
It looked like being a repeat of his 2007 victory, as Dani Pedrosa stormed away from the start line taking the holeshot and building up a lead of 7.5 seconds by the time the Spanish rider crossed the line for a sixth time. But, moments later, he lost control of the RC212V, crashing out and picking up his first 2008 "DNF". Casey Stoner then delivered a wet weather masterclass, avoiding the fate of any number of other riders who fell victim to the atrocious weather, and finishing in front of Valentino Rossi and Chris Vermeulen.
An all Bridgestone podium, with eight out of the first 10 riders using the Japanese manufacturer's tyres, and a grand slam result at a circuit where Bridgestone has struggled in the past, indicating wet weather rubber supremacy. Stoner's result being the first premier class win for Bridgestone at Sachsenring.
With several riders injured following crashes in both practice and race, it remains to be seen who will be fit enough to take up the challenge at the Red Bull US Grand Prix, next Sunday in Laguna Seca.
Two of our intrepid customers from Performance Triumph in Cheltenham are looking forward to October, when they will be undertaking an amazing Enduro Africa charity ride, in memory of a close friend tragically killed whilst riding his bike home from work.
Luke Cass and Stuart Carling are looking to raise money for the Enduro Africa campaign, which donates to three different children's charities, and their late friend's wife is organising a charity auction at Gupshill Manor in Tewkesbury with the same theme. Louise Ellis (louise_ellis@btinternet.com) would be very pleased to receive any prizes which could be included in the auction on Saturday 9th August, and we have sent a pair of BT-014 to help things along.
If anyone would be so kind as to donate something suitable for the auction, Louise's e-mail address is above and we have her telephone number here in the office, for which please call our CSA team free on 0800 281 413.
Not much bigger than mountain bike tyres, the OE rubber on Honda's small-displacement CBR125R may not be everything an aspiring sports bike rider would be looking for, and, although SAVA offer OE size replacements which upgrade performance for very sensible money, the other alternative, Bridgestone's BT39SS, whilst almost a road legal race tyre, is at the top end of the price scale and - according to opinion! - still leaves the bike looking under-tyred.
We have a little Repsol 125 here and were keen to see what would happen if we fitted the bigger tyres made by Michelin in 90/80-17 46S (f) and 110/80-17 57S (r), especially as the little Pilot Sportys are derived from the "affordable sport tyre" Michelin Pilot Sport.
Appearance-wise, the tyres, which resemble their bigger brother Pilot Sport, transform the CBR125R making it look more substantial. Handling is improved, with the machine feeling more "planted" and stable, also less vulnerable to crosswinds.
With a trade price some £34.00 less than the smaller BT39SS pair, the Pilot Sportys have a lot to offer.
By the way, if anyone is looking for a pair of partworn BT39SS in the CBR125R sizes, we have one with 300 miles use, for just £60.00 plus VAT. Our stock code is 8090/1008017 in case your CSA operator can't find them on our system!
We still have three unidentified rider photographs, from the 6th June Track Event with Avon at Oulton Park.
If any of these descriptions are familiar, we'd appreciate a call to freephone number 0800 281 413 so we can make somebody happy!
